Our Opinion of the Tunturi T60 Treadmill

The trusted Tunturi T60 treadmill is one of Tunturi's best sellers and will no doubt continue to be one of their flagship models. The T60 has a larger deck area and when you're on it, you just know that you're using a well built, quality product. It also has a couple of fitness tests which are a good way of testing if your fitness levels are improving.

A position speed control (PSC), is fitted to the Tunturi T60 allowing you to adjust your running speed without touching any buttons. To use this feature you need to wear the provided heart rate strap as a signal from the strap is used to adjust the speed.

Basically if you lean forward the treadmill increases in speed and if you lean, or move, backwards it reduces in speed. Although this feature takes a little getting used to, it does allow you to concentrate on your running. We're confident that once you've used it you wont want to go back to pushing buttons!

As you may have gathered the T60 treadmill is defiantly one of our favourites and, considering the quality and features it represents excellent value!

All Tunturi treadmills come with a manufacturer’s 15 year frame and motor warranty and all other components are covered with a 2 years parts and labour warranty.

You can extend the parts warranty on all components to 3 years by registering your product, free of charge, on Tunturi’s website. So, in the unlikely event of any problems, a Tunturi service engineer will arrange a visit to carry out any necessary repairs on site. This is a significant improvement on the more usual return to base warranty and reflects Tunturi’s faith in their product.

The older you are, the less exercise you require.

Wrong! Typically we become less active with age and therefore exercise becomes even more important. Actually regular exercising in older persons increases their capacity to perform the activities of daily living. Exercising helps us stay flexible and maintain a healthy weight. You may not be able to lift as much weight or run for as long on your treadmill but your age should not be a limitation. Please just remember that everyone should tailor there workout program dependant on there own fitness levels.

If you would like to improve your fitness levels please visit www.ExerciseEquipment.co.uk where you will find a large selection of fitness equipment suitable for all ages.

Our Opinion of the Tunturi C60 Crosstrainer

The latest Tunturi C60 is the top of the “Performance” range with an updated console a 3.8 inch full colour display which means it’s easy to read whilst working out. There is a jog wheel below the screen (like on the newer BMW's) which you use to navigate through the menu. Once you’ve found the program you want you simply push the button of the jog wheel it’s so simple and it looks great.

You can set up numerous user profiles; you enter details such as your weight, height, sex and maximum heart rate level. The advantage of this is that all you do before a workout is select your profile and press start. No entering details every time you exercise and with the details provided the Tunturi C60 can calculate more accurate calorie consumption.

The console screen is clear and the programs really do help you stay motivated which is great because if you feel motivated and you enjoy your workout you are more likely to want to workout again sooner!

The Tunturi C60 is extremely smooth in operation and the resistance changes are quiet, as a result of the electromagnetic system which is used in the C60, C80, and C85 top range Tunturi models. This is defiantly going to be one of the more popular products from Tunturi as it is know such a sophisticated value package.

All Tunturi crosstrainers come with a manufacturer’s 15 year frame warranty and all other components are covered with a 2 years parts and labour warranty.

You can extend the parts warranty on all components to 3 years by registering your product free of charge with Tunturi on their website.

This means that in the unlikely event of any problems a Tunturi service engineer will visit you and carry out any necessary repairs. This type of warranty is far more desirable than a return to base warranty and reflects the faith Tunturi have in the quality of their product.

Rowing Machine Purchase Guide

The Rowing Machine is used to simulate the action of watercraft rowing; they not only work the major muscle groups, but provide excellent cardiovascular exercise. Rowing Machines are so popular because they;

• offer low impact exercise.
• are suitable for almost all ages and abilities.
• can be used for endurance and sprint training.
• have low maintenance, keeping costs down.
• are small in size, with some models able to store upright.
• are an effective tool for fat loss.
• generally do not require a power source.

Outlined below are a few essential tips to bear in mind when purchasing a Rowing Machine.

What is your budget?

Rowing machines vary in price enormously depending on the features and design. A high end rowing machine can cost upwards of £1000, although not everyone can or wants to spend £1000 on a rowing machine! As with most exercise equipment you get what you pay for, basic rowing machines start from £299. Many of the rowing machines nowadays have features found on commercial models, and are often built to last for years.
Generally with more expensive rowing machines, you will find more stable, robust machines, manufactured from the highest grade materials.

How much space do you have?

When purchasing a rowing machine it is always best to measure the space in which you intend the rowing machine to live, you do not want to find that it does not fit in your desired space once it has been delivered! Websites such as www.exercise-equipment.co.uk displays all the dimensions of the equipment they sell on the product details page.

Always check what warranty comes with the rowing machine?

All the rowing machines sold on www.exercise-equipment.co.uk come with a minimum 2 year parts and 1 year labour, on-site warranty, and often longer. All of the brands that www.exercise-equipment.co.uk represent provide comprehensive warranties. You do not want to have a rowing machine which you are liable to send back to the supplier if it has a fault.

What are programmes and how do they benefit me?

Many of the rowing machines stocked on www.exercise-equipment.co.uk come with variable and interval programmes, including heart rate controlled programmes (when using the heart rate strap). In the case of the Tunturi models, these can be controlled from the handlebar. Having more programmes is often a necessary aid to keep your commitment to your goals…

How is the resistance level adjustable?

With many cheaper rowing machines, the resistance is provided by an electro-magnet, whilst these provide excellent training, machines using air or water resistance (such as the WaterRower range) will provide a smoother action. Many experienced rowers find the action of the WaterRower the closest to boat rowing.
Although the electro magnetic resistance rowers, such as the Tunturi R60, do have a different action, they often benefit from features such as being foldable and can sometimes be used for strength training.

Our Opinion of the Reebok 5 Series Exercise Bike

The Reebok 5 series exercise bike has 16 levels of resistance and extra programs over the Reebok 3 series bike. It has a heart rate control feature with heart rate hand grip sensors. The saddle can be tilted and adjusted horizontally to achieve a more comfortable exercising position. These features, combined with the Reebok warranty and service, make the 5 series a good all round purchase..

All Reebok exercise bikes come with a manufacturer’s 2 years parts and labour warranty.
So, in the unlikely event of any problems, a Reebok service engineer will arrange a visit to carry out any necessary repairs on site. This is a significant improvement on the more usual return to base warranty and reflects Reebok’s faith in their product.

Looking for a Reebok exercise bike? Take a look at www.exerciseequipment.co.uk

Our Opinion of the Tunturi R60 Rower

The Tunturi R60 rower is excellent. Importantly, it folds and has wheels which allow you to store it after use. The quality is superb as you would expect from Tunturi and there are plenty of features to keep you entertained. There are 11 programs including a heart rate controlled program and you can even adjust the resistance level on the handlebar itself which means you don’t have to stop mid session to increase or decrease the resistance. The resistance is regulated by an electromagnet and it feels solid and smooth in use.

The R60 comes complete with a heart rate chest strap so you can utilise the heart rate controlled program. You can also use the rower for strength training as well as rowing. Making this is an excellent all round piece of equipment.

The Tunturi R60 rower comes with a 15 year manufacturer’s frame warranty and the all other components are covered with a 2 years parts and labour warranty.

You can extend the parts warranty on all components to 3 years by registering your product free of charge with Tunturi on their website.

Free Weights

Using free weights can help to improve your strength and fitness. Whilst lifting weights you are burning calories, increasing your muscle size, strength, endurance, power and bone density. Dumbbells are the most common purchase and they can be utilised to offer a huge variety of workouts. Dumbbells have the advantage that they do not take up to much room, and are cheaper than multi-gyms. Relatively new to the UK market are the excellent Bowflex SelectTech adjustable dumbbells.

The ingenious Bowflex SelectTech dumbbells enable you to select between 2-21kg at the turn of a dial. These dumbbells are perfect for people with space constraints or who simply don’t want 15 pairs of individual dumbbells. You can select 2-10kg in 1kg increments and after that in 2kg increments. There is an optional stand which, in our opinion, is useful as it discourages you from leaning over and potentially hurting your back when picking up the weights.

Below is a list of just some exercises you can perform with dumbbells.

LEG EXERCISES

  • Wide squats
  • Calf raises
  • Stationary lunges
  • Stiff-leg dead lift

"Exercising Hurts"

Many people avoid exercise because they find it painful on their backs or joints or because they have “bad knees”. Exercising should never be painful and remember you should always consult you doctor before undertaking a new fitness regime. However there are solutions to theses problems, low impact exercise provided by equipment such as Recumbent Exercise Bikes, Elliptical Trainers also known as Crosstrainers and Treadclimbers. These cardio vascular pieces of equipment are designed to provide a low impact workout which still raises your heart level significantly which can help with weight loss and your general fitness levels. Crosstrainers are one of the most popular pieces of exercise equipment available and there are a great number available, one of the best for a low impact workout is the Trimmaster E418 Crosstrainer with its articulating foot plates.

If the idea of a low impact cardio vascular workout appeals you should visit www.exerciseequipment.co.uk where you’ll find a large range of exercise equipment.

“It’s too far to the gym!”

We’ve all done it, I’ll visit the gym tomorrow when I’ve got more time and I’ve filled the car up with petrol!! Problem is that tomorrow usually arrives and you find another excuse. The problem with this is that you’re paying for a gym membership and you’re not loosing weight or achieving your fitness goals. Many people who have gym memberships enjoy the social aspect of visiting the gym and look forward to their visit. However there are some of us out there who want to keep fit and loose weight without using a gym. Maybe it’s the thought of the drive, the cost of parking the car, the gym showers, or the body builder who looks at you and makes you feel so pathetic.

During the summer there are plenty of outdoor activities such as running, walking, cycling, surfing and swimming to help us stay fit and loose weight. However during the winter months and for those of you who live in the cities these activities are not always possible. Exercising in the comfort of your own home is the answer and it’s becoming more affordable. You do not have to spend a lot of money, for example you could purchase a Swiss ball for as little as £18 and just sit on it whilst you watch your favourite TV show every evening. Yes that’s right just sitting on the ball is going to help, it builds up your core muscles and helps with coordination. If your budget is larger and you’re looking to loose weight then you may want to consider a crosstrainer, such as a Reebok 3 Series Elliptical, which provides a low impact cardio vascular workout. Websites such as www.exerciseequipment.co.uk offer such products at affordable prices and usually with free delivery. Just think you could purchase a few pieces of exercise equipment, such as a Tunturi R60 Rower and a Bremshey Pacer C Crosstrainer, and use them in the comfort of your own home. In fact your entire family could use the exercise equipment and feel the benefits. Just think no more gym showers, no more parking costs, no queuing for the piece of equipment you want to use and you can watch/listen to whatever you like.

If the idea of working out in the comfort of your own home sounds appealing why not visit www.exerciseequipment.co.uk and look at the large range of equipment available all with free delivery.

Tunturi’s PSC – What is it and how does it benefit me?

Position Speed Control (PSC) has been developed by Tunturi to provide the most natural training ever on a treadmill. The speed of the treadmill can be controlled without touching any buttons, allowing complete concentration on your workout. Treadmills which feature PSC, such as the Tunturi T60, measure your position on the running deck based on the heart rate transmitter belts signal. If you position yourself at the front of the running belt, the speed will increase, if you position yourself at the rear of the running belt, the speed decreases. To keep the speed constant you just run/walk in the middle of the running deck. You can adjust the zone limits and this only takes a matter of seconds.

In practice you find yourself leaning forward to increase the speed and the opposite to decrease it, it takes a few minutes to get use to the PSC function but once you have mastered it you’ll feel lost without it. PSC is fitted to Tunturi’s T60, T80, and T85 models and is a worthy feature.

Please visit www.exerciseequipment.co.uk for the full range of Tunturi treadmills.

Elliptical Cross Trainer Purchase Guide

The elliptical trainer first entered the market in 1995 and has been in constant development since. Reebok introduced the first crosstrainer with moving arms giving the user a lower and upper body workout. Crosstrainer have become so popular because:

• Low impact exercise, which is gentle on backs, knees, hips and joints.
• Weight bearing exercise that helps build bone density and burns calories efficiently.
• Suitable for a large range of training needs.
• Low maintenance, keeping costs down.
• Smaller in size than a treadmill.

We have outlined a few essential tips to bear in mind when purchasing an Elliptical / Crosstrainer.

What is your budget?

Crosstrainers vary in price enormously depending on the features and design. A high end crosstrainer can cost upwards of £2500, although not everyone can or wants to spend £2500 on a crosstrainer! As with most exercise equipment you get what you pay for, basic crosstrainers start from £150. Many of the crosstrainers on sale nowadays have features found on commercial models and will last you years.
Generally the more expensive the crosstrainer the heavier the flywheel and the more features it has. A heavier fly wheel will generally provide a smoother operation.

How much space do you have?

When purchasing a crosstrainer it is always best to measure the space in which you intend the crosstrainer to live, you do not want to find that it does not fit in your desired space once it has been delivered. Reputable websites such as www.exerciseequipment.co.uk display all the dimensions of the equipment it sells on the product details page. Most crosstrainers are motorised and will require a power socket nearby.

Always check what warranty comes with the crosstrainer?

All the crosstrainers sold on www.exerciseequipment.co.uk come with a minimum 1 year parts and labour warranty. All of the brands that www.exerciseequipment.co.uk represent provide comprehensive warranties. You do not want to have a crosstrainer which you are liable to send back to the supplier if it has a fault. Manufacturers such as Tunturi provide a 15 year frame warranty and two year warranties on the other components.

What are programmes and how do they benefit me?

It is often difficult to motivate yourself when you’re often using the same routine! Purchasing a crosstrainer with programmes maybe the answer. Having pre-set or even customisable workout programmes is a great way to provide some extra variety and motivation. Some of the more expensive crosstrainers, such as the Tunturi C60 now offer heart rate controlled programmes which using your heart rate, increase or decrease the resistance of the crosstrainer keeping your heart rate as close as possible to the pre-set rate. This is a safe way to exercise and can help with weight loss.

How is the resistance level adjustable?

Cheaper Crosstrainers resistance is adjusted manually. With most of the crosstrainers on www.exerciseequipment.co.uk resistance is changed by an electromagnet. Magnetic resistance elliptical machines are generally smoother in operation and have fewer moving parts and so are less likely to break down.

Treadmill Purchase Guide

Due to the increasing popularity of home use Treadmills, you can now purchase a treadmill with as many features as most commercial models for less than you may think!

Purchasing a treadmill can be a daunting experience, so we have outlined a few essential tips to bear in mind when finding the right model for you, we hope they help....

What is your budget?

Treadmills vary in price enormously depending on the features and design. A high end treadmill can cost upwards of £5000, not everyone can or wants to spend £5000 on a treadmill. As with most exercise equipment you get what you pay for, basic motorised treadmills start at about £400. The larger your budget the better the build quality and functions. Generally a more expensive treadmill will be more stable to run on, have a cushioned running deck and have numerous programs.

How much space do you have?

Treadmills are large pieces of exercise equipment, and you need to consider this carefully when purchasing a treadmill. You do not want to find that it does not fit in your desired room once it has been delivered. Measure the space you have available and check the dimensions of the treadmills you like before purchasing, if space is an issue consider a folding treadmill. Some are now designed to fit under a bed! Motorised treadmills will also need to be near a power socket.

How will the Treadmill be used?

Running or walking? If you intend to primarily use the treadmill for walking then a top speed of 6 mph (10km/h) and a smaller deck maybe all you require. If you are intending on using the treadmill for running then a larger deck, 128cm long and 40cm wide is the minimum we would recommend. The maximum speed of the treadmill should be at least 2mph faster than your regular running pace to ensure the life of the treadmill motor.

Who is going to be using the treadmill?

Will the treadmill be used by someone other than you? If so you will need to consider their requirements, maybe they are heavier than you? If so you will need to purchase a treadmill with a maximum weight rating above their weight. Are they much taller than you and going to require a longer running deck? Do they suffer from joint pain and require a more cushioned running deck?

What is the difference between continuous duty and peak duty motors?

Continuous duty means how much horsepower can be constantly delivered regardless of the user’s weight. Peak duty is the maximum horsepower that a treadmill can deliver. When selecting a treadmill always look for a treadmill with a minimum of 1.5 continuous duty HP. All of the horse power ratings on www.exercise-equipment.co.uk are continuous duty HP ratings.

Is the treadmill covered by a warranty?

All the treadmills sold on www.exercise-equipment.co.uk come with a minimum 1 year parts and labour warranty. All of the brands that www.exercise-equipment.co.uk represent provide comprehensive warranties. You do not want to have a treadmill for which you are liable to send back to the supplier if it has a fault. None of the treadmills sold on www.exercise-equipment.co.uk have a return to base warranty and most of the manufacturers, like Tunturi, provide a 15 year frame and motor warranty on their treadmills.

What is heart rate control and how does it benefit me?

Heart rate control programs work by adjusting the intensity of a program to keep your heart at a preset level. This level will be a percentage of your maximum heart rate, as a rough guide to calculate your maximum heart rate, deduct your age from 220 e.g. if you’re 35 years of age then your maximum heart rate is around 185. Depending on your fitness level you should workout to a percentage of that figure between 55% and 80%.

When using a heart rate controlled program the equipment will need to know your heart rate constantly. This can be either via the heart rate hand grip sensors or via a wireless telemetric heart rate strap which sends your heart rate via radio waves to the console. Many of the treadmills we sell have heart rate hand grip sensors; although the disadvantage of using these during a heart rate program is that you have to keep your hands connected to the sensors which can impede your running. This is where looking for a treadmill which you can use a heart rate strap with is useful, as you do not need to worry about holding onto any sensors whilst working out. Most of the treadmills on www.exercise-equipment.co.uk have built in receivers and some come complete with a strap.

Most treadmills will keep your heart rate at the preset rate by increasing or decreasing the speed of the treadmill dependant on your heart rate. Some of the more expensive treadmills, such as the Tunturi T40 treadmill have an incline controlled heart rate controlled program as well as speed. Heart rate control programs offer a safe and effective way to workout.

What are programmes and how do they benefit me?

It is often difficult to motivate yourself when you’re always using the same routine! Purchasing a treadmill with programmes maybe the answer. Having pre-set or even customisable workout programmes is a great way to provide some extra variety and motivation. There are programs such as rolling hills and fat burn which increase and decrease the speed and sometimes the incline of the treadmill to provide a varied motivating workout. Most mid and high end treadmills, such as the Bremshey Ambition T, now offer heart rate controlled programmes which using your heart rate increase or decrease the speed of the treadmill. This keeps your heart rate as close as possible to your pre-set optimum rate. This is a safe way to exercise and can help focus your workout on weight loss.

How is the incline adjustable and how does it benefit me?

Most treadmills allow you to adjust the incline of the running deck; cheaper treadmills generally have manual incline adjustment. Meaning that you have to dismount the treadmill and change the incline manually. Many mid and high end treadmills, like the Tunturi T20, have an automatic incline, adjustable from the console. Increasing the incline intensifies and varies your workout and most treadmills allow between 10-15% incline.

Please Visit www.exerciseequipment.co.uk for an excellent range of treadmills from brands such as Tunturi, Reebok, Nautilus, Bremshey and many others.

Depending on your fitness level you should workout to a percentage of that figure between 55% and 80%.

Almost all cardio vascular exercise equipment can offer heart rate control, in this instance I have described how it works with regards to treadmills. Other pieces of fitness equipment such as crosstrainers also known as elliptical trainers and exercise bikes work on the same principles.

When using a heart rate controlled program the fitness equipment will need to know your heart rate constantly. This can be either via the heart rate hand grip sensors or via a wireless telemetric heart rate strap which sends your heart rate via radio waves to the console. Most of the treadmills sold have heart rate hand grip sensors; although the disadvantage of using these during a heart rate controlled program is that you have to keep your hands connected to the sensors which can impede your running. How to Improve Your Health & Fitness

If you want to improve your health first try and limit the number of tablets you may be taking or are used to taking. Paracetamol might be the first choice for headaches, but you will be surprised how often a headache can be cured by just drinking water or having something to eat. (any vegetables will be a bonus)

If you’re taking supplements try and find the equivalent organically. You can modify your diet and still feel the benefits without some of the risks involved by taking a dietary supplement. However much time you think you may or may not have to prepare organic fruit and vegetables it will always be worth it. Five fruit and vegetables a day should be your minimum target.

Always try and consult a professional dietician.

Athletes for example, take creatine supplements to boost their strength and give them a legal edge over their competition. There will always be risks involved, as it could be possible that the creatine you take may have contaminated, banned substances. This is a large risk to your health and if you’re a professional athlete it could ruin your career.

Even professionals bleed…not literally, but you must without doubt allow the body to heal when in training mode. By scheduling a complete day off every week you train you will be doing your mind and body the world of good. Allowing your muscles to recoup and your mind to focus ready for the next training day.

Listening to your body may seem simple but many don’t and this is when injures occur. If your body is hurting through exercise you are pushing it too hard. STOP! Tell yourself that is enough for today, shower, eat well then relax for the rest of the day. Don’t beat yourself up about it as tomorrow is another day.

You can improve your health and fitness by stretching as soon as you wake. Just a few simple stretches will do to get you motivated. Your muscles get shorter when exercising so if you never stretch you will get injured. Stretch thoroughly after exercising aswell.

We all know that we should drink more water in our daily routines especially when exercising. Because you lose minerals in your body while sweating you need to stay fully hydrated, this means drinking plenty of water before, during and after rigorous exercise.

Exercising can be lonely, try and exercise with other people. You will make new friends, and your fitness will improve faster if you have other people helping to keep you motivated.

Becoming too competitive may harm your health. Motivation from other people is good thing, but you should bear in mind you’re only competing against yourself. Your body will differ to others and will only be able to sustain certain levels of exercise. Be yourself, set your own pace. If you try too hard to keep up with someone else’s you could easily become injured.

As with most things in life, enjoy the type of exercise you choose and have a much fun as possible. This will stimulate your mind and help you stick to your goals.

Please visit http://www.exerciseequipment.co.uk for elliptical trainers, treadmills, exercise bikes and rowing machines.

Choosing the Correct Home Exercise Equipment

Exercise schedules should include three parts: Strength training, aerobic exercise, and flexibility training. When considering the correct fitness equipment in your home, you should purchase a machine that combines at least two of these exercises.

You do not have to invest large amounts of money on expensive fitness equipment in order to get into shape. A few pieces of exercise equipment will do, and one way to save both cash and space is to purchase exercise equipment that can be used to work several different muscle groups.

A great and least expensive way to start home exercise is to get into strength training with hand weights. They will help strengthen and tone the upper body, most people should begin with 3, 5, or 10-pound hand weights. Choosing a specific weight that suits your current level of strength can be hard.

Another popular piece of exercise equipment that appears in Yoga and Pilate’s classes is the stability ball. They are made for building your abs and your back.

Strength building is just as important as a good cardiovascular workout. Strength training sessions should be challenging, and you should feel your body working hard, but not straining. Free weights and bench presses cost nothing and can provide you with great upper body muscle. If you’re on a tight budget consider one of numerous workout DVDs available. There are all levels of exercise, and most require simple equipment like a floor mat or step-up board.

If you are like me and have no self-motivation at times why not consider hiring the services of a professional fitness trainer. They can advise you in all aspects of exercise and routines that will help you to reach your fitness goals.

Exercise Equipment

For those with a larger budget wishing to take their exercise serious, will need either a treadmill, elliptical trainer or an exercise bicycle to get a rigorous cardiovascular workout. The main benefit of a treadmill is that it combines two of the most popular forms of exercise, walking and running. Elliptical trainers are growing in popularity due to the low-impact workout that combines upper and lower body exercise.

If you’re looking at primarily, strength training, I highly recommend home exercise equipment. It not only allows you to workout various muscle groups but it is more flexible than free weights.

If you want to get back into shape this year, having home exercise equipment is the answer. I love the convenience of having exercise equipment in my home, which means I can train when I want too on my terms. Not when a gym membership tells me too.

Good luck with your training this year!
